After nearly 50 years of contract and residential design, I still love my work. My relationships with my clients are dear to me. I'm still working with my first residential client (1965!), "re-doing" her home for the third time. My mantra at McGilligan's was "a customer doesn't care what you know until they know that you care" and that still applies today. Getting to know my client allows me to put his or her personality into their space, whether it is a residential or commercial project. If you walk into a room and say "Buffy was the designer," then I haven't served my client well. I want their personal style to shine through.
One of my most challenging contract projects was Sundara Inn and Spa. Knowing the owner and her "dream" and sharing her vision, together we turned a dream into a marvelous reality.
Retirement? As long as my clients remain a priority, I'll continue to do what I love, working with them to achieve their dream.
